How To Put On A Rear Motorcycle Tire

By | June 3, 2023

If you own a motorcycle, you know that at some point you'll have to change the tires. While it may seem intimidating, putting on a rear motorcycle tire is pretty straightforward; just follow these simple steps and you'll be riding with new rubber in no time.

The first step in changing out a rear motorcycle tire is to lift the bike off the ground so that you can access the rear wheel. If your bike has a center stand, use this to securely lift the bike off the ground. Otherwise, you'll need to use two strong blocks on either side of the bike, one in front of the tire and one behind it.

Once the bike is lifted, the next step is to break the bead of the tire. The bead is the inner edge of the tire that locks onto the wheel rim, and breaking it will make it easier to remove the tire from the rim. To do this, you'll need a tire iron or bead breaker. Place the tire iron between the wheel and the tire and apply pressure to break the bead. Once you've done this around the circumference of the wheel, the tire should easily come off the rim.

Now you can start mounting the new tire. Put a few drops of dish soap on the tire bead and the rim to help create a better seal. Then, put the tire onto the wheel by pressing the bead into the rim. You may also need to use a tire iron to help press the bead into the rim. When you're done, use air to inflate the tire until the bead is seated on the rim.

With those steps, you're ready to roll. Make sure to check the tire pressure and adjust accordingly before you take your bike out for a spin. With the right tools and a bit of patience, you should be able to put on a rear motorcycle tire like a pro.
