Remove Rear Motorcycle Tire

Riding a motorcycle can be an incredibly liberating experience, but it comes with certain responsibilities. One of the most important is knowing how to remove the rear tire of your motorcycle, should it become necessary. This task may seem daunting, but the process is relatively simple and can save you time and money if you can do it yourself.

The first step in changing a rear motorcycle tire is to locate the axle bolt. This can usually be found on the left side of the bike, and is what holds the tire into the swingarm. Once you have located the axle bolt, use a wrench or ratchet to loosen it and then remove it completely. After the axle bolt is removed, the tire will be able to slide off the axle and free from the swingarm.

If you’re replacing the tire, placing the new one on is simply the matter of reversing the steps. Make sure the tire is properly placed on the axle, then insert the axle bolt and tighten it with a wrench or ratchet. You should always check the torque of the axle to make sure it is tightened correctly. Finally, replace the cotter pin or castle nut and you're all done!

Knowing how to safely and correctly remove and replace a rear motorcycle tire is an essential skill for any motorcycle rider. With some basic tools and a bit of practice, anyone can master this task and save themselves time and money at the mechanic’s shop. So don’t be afraid to take on this project and get yourself out on the open road.
